Lifehouse

Lifehouse is an American rock band from California. They became famous in 2001 with the single "Hanging by a Moment" from their album called No Name Face. The single won a Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year for the number 1 Single of 2001.

They have released three more albums: Stanley Climbfall in 2002, the self-titled Lifehouse in 2005 and Who We Are in 2007. Their singles "You and Me", "First Time", and "Whatever It Takes", have all been top 40 hits in the US. They have sold fifteen million singles and albums worldwide.

The group includes Jason Wade (lead vocals), Rick Woolstenhulme (drums), Bryce Soderberg (bass guitar) and Ben Carey (guitar).

The music video that I chose is on the song “Broken”. I think that Jason Wade has an amazing voice which is one of the main reasons that it’s my favorite band. The video ends giving us the impression that Wade was having a vision about a car crash he might cause.

Jason Wade has a reason for writing this song. His friend needed a kidney transplant so Wade flew out to see his friend. The chorus of this song is what his friend told him.

"Man killed test driving new flying motorcycle"

New technology has brought us far more then we had ever imagined. Talking robots, automaticly driven cars, and now flying motorcycles. Local stuntman George Hays offered to test drive this new vihicle. A massive crowd gathered to view this historical event. Starting of smoothly the vihicle was lifted of the ground but due to the passing of a gaggle of geese the motor vihicle was tipped upside down and Hays was thrown to the ground, breaking both of his legs. He died soon after of blood loss and shock. Police forces are still searching for this gaggle to this day but so far they have not been found.

Tell-Tale heart scene

"You should have seen how wisely I proceeded -- with what caution -- with what foresight, with what dissimulation, I went to work! And every night about midnight I turned the latch of his door and opened it oh, so gently! And then, when I had made an opening sufficient for my head, I put in a dark lantern all closed, closed so that no light shone out, and then I thrust in my head. Oh, you would have laughed to see how cunningly I thrust it in! I moved it slowly, very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old man's sleep. It took me an hour to place my whole head within the opening so far that I could see him as he lay upon his bed."

Tell-Tale Heart

The story that I will talk about is a story I didn’t like at all. I think it has a really weird plot and I would never watch it again. But if I had to choose from those three videos I would probably choose the first one because it has more details and it’s easy to understand it. The story is about a mad person who, after killing an old man for his white eye or as he said the "evil eye", hears an unbearable heartbeat and releases his overwhelming sense of guilt by shouting his confession to the police. Throughout the story the narrator insists that he is sane, yet at the same time, he is giving the impression of being insane.

Truman vs Jonas

There are many books and movies that could compare with each other, they all have differences and similarities. In this essay i would compare and contrast the book "Giver" with a movie "The Truman Show". I would talk about the characters, and the setting.

The Truman show is a movie in which Truman, the main character of a TV show, is raised on a set, believing that it is reality. The show goes on twenty-four/seven for all of Truman's life. The Giver is a book in which life is safe, orderly, and predictable.Every aspect of a person's life is carefully planned. People rarely make choices on their own. Everything is decided for them by the community. There is no snow or sunshine, no colors or music, no animals or nature.

The characters in the Giver and in the Truman show are very similar. Both Truman and Jonas are true to themselves and both have the feeling to explore the rest of the world. They feel anger, need to share, confusion when they realize the truth. However, there also have many differences such as: Truman was born with feelings, and he could be himself with the whole world. While, Jonas wasn't born with feelings, and he could only be himself with the Giver.

The setting in the Giver is that the story takes place in a small village, and the main character, Jonas, must learn to interact with his environment. In The Truman Show, the story takes place in a small city which is controlled by the "directors". The "directors" control everything that Truman does. They change the city when Truman almost finds out what they are doing. Each setting is important to the whole story, but they affect the characters differently.

Both Truman and Jonas have their own similarities and differences in the plot and chracters. In general the Giver and The Truman Show were very interesting, but i didnt really like the endings of those two stories because it felt like the stories are incomplete and are in need of a proper endings.

9) Discuss whether Jonas' assignment as the next Receiver of Memory is an honor or a punishment?

Jonas' assignment as the next Receiver is an honor and a punishment at the same time. Its an honor because he has more respect from others,he always gets asked for his opinion by the Elders. Also,he has the possibility to see beyond, to understand the world without sameness better. He is allowed to go anywhere he wants, and attend any Release.
However, its also a punishment because he has to endure the physical pain, and be isolated from the rest of the community. I think that the worst part is that he cannot share his memories, his knowledge and emotions with anyone else.

3) Explain how Jonas' community is hypocritical.

Its hypocritical because everyone pretends to be happy and that everything is perfect, but in reality they kill newborn children and the old, they feel normal about it, in fact they don't feel sorry for them because they don't have emotions. The elders don't really talk about Release, they make it sound that its a good thing.

1) Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of Sameness in Jonas' community.

The advantages are that people don't fight or argue about the differences between them. There are no poor and no hungry people because everyone gets the same amount of food. They all have the same houses. They also get along easily with each other.
Meanwhile, the disadvantages in the community are that they cant enjoy life fully because there is always something missing such as the emotions in a relationship. Also, they don't decide anything for themselves for example they can't choose jobs the Elders do that for them. They cannot read books because the books were all taken away.

Scary Setting

If i were writing a horror story or directing a horror movie, it would probably be in a really old, and creepy mansion or a forest. It would surely have a graveyard and a lot of spooky things like sculls, bones all over the place. I would also choose timorous music or sounds to make the atmosphere fearful and scary. I think that it would start with a guy getting lost in a hunted forest full of dreadful creatures and then he gets captured by one, so throughout the book or the movie he tries to escape.

Respond to a prediction

In 2155, computers will replace human teachers

I strongly disagree with this prediction. We will only benefit having a real teacher in the world of Hi-tech and super computers. I believe, that no super machine can replace real human relationship between students and teacher. No clever machine can build this atmosphere in the class, in which we can all enjoy the lesson's.I hope that in future we will not have any computers replacing the teachers.

SURFF: Your Favorite Character

One of my favorite characters in this book is Richard. He is a seeker. He is always trying to proof that he is not a bad person because his father was an evil guy who killed thousands of people. In my story Richard finds out that he has magic and that he is a wizard, he gets really frustrated because he hates magic.

Richard is realy brave, and he fights all the bad guys in my story. He is very tall and muscular, has long brown hair. In my story, Richard loves a girl who's name is Kahlan and he acts a bit childish around her. He wants to marry her more than anything in his life.
